Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him during a phone conversation that China would not sell weapons to Russia.

Zelenskiy shared this information at a joint press conference with U.S. President Joe Biden at the G7 summit in Italy. He did not specify the exact timing of his conversation with Xi.

"I had a firm conversation with the leader of China. He said that he will not sell any weapons to Russia. If he’s a respectable person, he will keep his word," Zelenskiy said in English.

President Biden added, "China is not supplying weapons, but it is providing the capability and technology to produce those weapons, which effectively helps Russia."

Zelenskiy mentioned that if Kyiv and Beijing shared the same views on peace, there could be a dialogue between them. However, if Beijing had a different perspective, it could propose an alternative "peace formula."

The Ukrainian leader has been advocating his vision for peace in Ukraine, referred to as his "peace formula."

This weekend, Switzerland is set to host international delegations from numerous countries and organizations at a summit aimed at advancing peace in Ukraine.
