Here are the selected highlights from a report released by the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) post in Guangzhou, a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture:
The estimated cane sugar production for the 2022/23 marketing year is 7.92 million tonnes, which has been revised down by 1.08 million tonnes from the USDA official estimate. This reduction is due to lower-than-normal rainfall in Guangxi, which is China's largest sugar producing province.
Sugar consumption in China has started to recover after the lifting of COVID-related restrictions. As a result of high world prices, China's sugar imports are being curtailed, which may lead to a decline in stocks. Photo by Fritzs, Wikimedia commons.
